Requirements
- It requires seven people as a governing body to register the society. But, they all must belong to seven different states.
- The society may be engaged in profit-making practices, but the profit sharing won’t happen among its members, as in the case of NGO.
- The governing members should not have any blood relationship. As a proof, the president of the society provides an affidavit, stating that no member has blood relation with each other.
- The MOA of the society states the purpose of its setup. It also consists of the rules or guidelines being required for its working.
Process
The society should have a unique name, which should not coincide with any trademark or registered name. The president shall state in the affidavit that the selected name does not sound similar to any other NGO.
The main purpose of the society shall be described in the MOA, which has all rules for internal affairs, like quorum of meetings, powers and responsibilities of the official positions of president, secretary or treasurer.
The signed MOA, affidavits, and KYC of governing body are enclosed with the application to register it with the Registrar. The verification of the documents go on. Finally, the Certificate of Registration of Society is issued.
At last, the PAN number, TAN, and a bank account are opened upon paying out the membership fee, subscription charges, or donations.
